Lonnie George Johnson is an American engineer and inventor. Johnson invented the Super Soaker water gun, which was the top selling toy in the United States in 1991 and 1992 and continues to be a fan favorite to this day. Johnson has earned millions of dollars for his inventions and continues to invent in the realms of thermo- and fluid dynamics as well as toys. In addition to ongoing controls work for NASA, Johnson and his company are developing an improved home radon detector, a rechargeable battery, and a heat pump that uses water instead of Freon, among other projects. He holds a B.S in Mechanical Engineering and a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Tuskegee University.
